Philip's New Garage

We could not build another garage at the Hesperia house so Philip found himself a garage already built. It is 30' x 30' with two large 10' x 10' rollup doors. It also has a large covered area in front.

Checking Lines

Philip has to check all the lines as the tree comes over. He also cut the tap root so that it did not pull the lines.

Roots II

For the second tree we had to call Dig Alert. The gas line runs directly under the tree, along with the water line and the sprinkler system.

Tree Time

Philip cut the trunk down to the roots. You can see the rings in this 18yr old tree.

Lamp Post in the Park

A new record 8 days from purchase at a garage sale to installation.
This is Philip's pet project this week. It gives the yard a quaint look.
Oh - this was what we needed to new electrical for.

Root Reduction

Progress on the root reduction.
Many are cut but we keep finding more.
We are about 4' deep and getting close.

Electrical Addition

Working on a rock house makes adding electrical interesting.
Philip added a switch to an outlet and had to bend schedule 40 1/2" pipe for the project.
Ah but it looks good and fits around the sprinkler cover.

Moving Dirt

The neighbor wanted some dirt so he brought over a tractor.
Of course first he had to break up that caliche (hard pan.)

Logging Operations Day 3 - Moats

The trees are topped so now to clear out the roots. We soak the ground to make it easier to dig. We also use the hydro wand here to loosen soil around the trunk and roots - over and over and over ...

Logging Operations Day 2

So you cut down the tree and it refused to fall down. Oops.
Actually it was easy to carefully cut off the extra leaves and limbs. Then we pulled it over and finished the cut up.



Here we are at the end of the day. Two tall stumps to dig up. No other trees or plants were hurt in the process, especially the cherry tree that Philip is fighting the birds over.

Logging Operations Day 1

The utility company came by and topped the elm trees below the overhead lines.
So before the new fence goes in we decided to take out the two trees. We moved the old fence and Catherine used the ropes to keep the tree from hitting the cherry tree underneath.




Catherine tried to push it over - didn't work. Guess it comes down tomorrow.

Break Time in the New Shed

The painted floor is in place - great place for a break.

Painting Day

Philip is painting the floor boards of the new sheds. Of course Mr Monk painted both sides.

We Have a Gate

Here is the new gate made of old gas station walls mounted on a frame made from an old garage door. We are definitely into reuse. Just need to figure out how to put the farm logo on it.

Gate Prep

We are ready to put the panels up on the gate. These are old gas station walls so very appropriate.
White on the front and dark on the back. Cleaned up 7 of them today.

Shed Construction Day 4

0830 - Ready Set GO!!!

1000 - Walls are up and the roof structure started.

1100 - last of the roof structure is attached.

1145 - Roof almost complete - just 2 more pieces.

1245 - Roof on, doors hung - Philip finishes up the final touches - door latches and vents.

1330 - Completed shed except for the plywood on the floor

Supply Run

Fuel prices what they are the Passat was pressed into service for a small supply run, just 9 sheets of 3/4" plywood and a few other odds and ends - oh and food.

Glad we have a shed to store the supplies in :)
