Quiet Gulf of Mexico

After checking out the storm driven surf on the Atlantic we returned to our camp on the Gulf of Mexico and found calm water. Philip says it iw warm enough to swim in but not sure about the nurse sharks the neighbors were catching here.

Southern Most Point

Hurricane Gustav passed by the Keys but still gave us wind and heavy surf. Is the southern most point of land on the Continental USA still southernmost if it is under water? This is the Atlantic Ocean side of Key West.

This was the last 'corner' of the USA to visit. We now have been to all 4 corners of the continental USA.

On the Road Again

Sandy sent us these pictures of us leaving her place.

Key West, Florida

This is the life. Looking out on the Gulf of Mexico from our camp site on Key West.

It appears Hurricane Gustav kept the travelers away. We have an isolated campsite at NAS Key West Sigsbee park. We received word this morning that there would be no evacuation so we are set for the week.

First Road Repair

Our first road repair, 15 miles from Sandy's place. The hubs on the trailer wheels were too hot to Philip's liking so after a bit of grocery shopping he backed the axle nuts off a little. When we checked it 20 miles down the road they were good.

P & C Ready to Roll

Here we are ready to leave on the next leg of our adventure.
Thanks to Sandy we are showered, have clean clothes, and lots of little upgrades on the Scamp. Should be good for a couple weeks of chasing .. er.. rather running from hurricanes.

Shower platform

The shower has a deep well to stand in for the shower but it makes the toilet a little tall.
So Philip built this platform (covered in fabric) to make life easier.

First Sight

This was our first look at our new Scamp.
Yes there is a lot of moisture in the air from Fay.

Wet Truck

Philip ended up cleaning the truck several times in these two days of waiting out Tropical Storm Fay.

At least we had a good place to stay here in Oxford, Alabama.

Tropical Storm Fay - landfall #4

We have been pushing to get to Florida but Fay decided to be a road block so we went northeast yesterday. We are staying put here a couple days in Alabama protected by a mountain ridge. No rain here yet.

Motorcycle and Apache Trailer

Came across this motorcycle with an Apache camp trailer.

Nice set up. Comfortable motorcycle camping.

Well traveled.

Had to post this for our motorcycle riding friends.

Grape Arbor

A good crop of grapes this year on the arbor.

And a cool place to sit in the summer.

Steel Recovery

Here is the trailer loaded with the steel and tin we collected from the yard in our earlier cleanup. A few pieces were retrieved as work progressed but it was time to go.
Philip guesses 1200 lbs of steel but was way off - 1240 lbs total. About 3% off. Of course that did not include the aluminum, stainless, and brass in the truck.

The yard looks great all cleaned out.

39 Dodge Bed Delivery

Two engine hoists made easy work of unloading the 39 Dodge bed. Then we used one hoist to tip it up - most of the way. It worked as a safety as we pushed it over center.

Cats & Kittens

This is the neighbor's cat Anne, a poly-ped (notice the toes) who likes our dog-free yard.

These two are recent additions who really came out when the camera appeared so Philip named them Holly (above) and Wood (below.)
